About Us

We are the Gitsegukla First Nation, a vibrant and proud community of 500 located at the confluence of the Kitseguecla and Skeena Rivers, 40 km southwest of Hazelton, British Columbia. The name Gitsegukla translates to “people living under the precipice” in the Gitxsan language, referring to the ‘sharp-pointed’ mountain.

Situated in the heart of the Skeena Valley, our community offers a peaceful and picturesque landscape, which our ancestors have been living off of for generations. We are proud of our rich culture, history and customs, and are committed to preserving them for the generations to come.

Our Community

Our community is rural, yet independent.
With an on-reserve Health Center, Administration Office, and Elementary School, our community members have access to the education and health resources they need.

Accompanied by the after-school Youth Programs, Community Events, Men’s Group, and the Occasional Workshop or two, we strive to make it possible for every community member to have opportunities to grow and learn something.

Our community’s well-being is important to us, because we are the community. We are the people and the leaders, and it’s our responsibility to look after our community and our land.
