About Us
We are the Gitsegukla First Nation. In the Gitxsan language, Gitsegukla translates to “people living under the precipice” or more specifically, under the “Segukla” otherwise known as the “sharp-pointed” mountain.
With a population of about 500, our community sits at the confluence of the Kitseguecla and Skeena Rivers, approximately 40 km southwest of Hazelton, British Columbia. If we had to describe our community in two words, it’d be quiet and scenic. Being situated in the heart of the Skeena Valley, we are surrounded by the natural landscapes that our ancestors have lived off of for generations.

Our Community
Our community is rural, yet independent.
With an on-reserve Health Center, Administration Office, and Elementary School, our community members have access to the education and health resources they need.
Accompanied by the after-school Youth Programs, Community Events, Men’s Group, and the Occasional Workshop or two, we strive to make it possible for every community member to have opportunities to grow and learn something.
Our community’s well-being is important to us, because we are the community. We are the people and the leaders, and it’s our responsibility to look after our community and our land.
