Job Posting: Elementary School Principal

The Gitsegukla Elementary School is seeking an Elementary School Principal.

This team member will lead school-wide planning and change processes. They will help promote increased student engagement, achievement and sustain school growth over time.

The successful candidate will play a major role in implementing the School Improvement Plan.

This includes researching and implementing ways to integrate First Nations culture into daily learning across all subjects.

Expected program and service delivery management

In terms of financial management, the administrator will develop, implement, and monitor the school budget. They will also provide budgeting input based on a needs assessment.

The Principal is in charge of reviewing all programs delivered and developed. This is to ensure G.E.S meets all provincial standards.

The Principal will ensure quality teaching and learning opportunities for all students.

The administrator will also work with students and their parents to find and/or provide the best learning experience that is respectful of Gitsegukla’s specific language and culture.

Additionally, they will manage school planning, professional development, and human resource management for teachers, support staff, and volunteers.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a Master’s degree in education administration, curriculum, teaching or a related area.

They will also have a valid BC teaching certificate or eligibility for membership in the BC College of Teachers or eligibility for certification with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch Certification.

Experience working with and implementing programs/interventions for students with diverse needs is also required.

Direct experience working in school administration relating to First Nation Education will be considered an asset.

Candidates must also be able to successfully undergo a criminal records review and police record check, and must be eligible to work in Canada.

Proof of certifications will be required prior to employment.
